‘315 From Imo, Abia, Bayelsa ,’ 5 Facts About Nigeria’s First Airlift Slated For Friday, May 9
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has given graphical details of how 40,671 pilgrims from Nigerian would be airlifted to Saudi beginning from Friday, May 9.
The Commission, which confirmed that it had closed the registration of pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj on May 2 to enable it to concentrate on airlift of pilgrims, stated that the inaugural flight would took off from Imo, with pilgrims from Abia, Imo, and Bayelsa in board.

Four flights, Hajia Fatima Usara, Assistant Director, Information and Publication Division, NAHCON, continued in a statement made available to Platforms Africa, “are scheduled to take off simultaneously on May 9 for the pilgrimage.
“The flights are expected as follows: Max Air from Bauchi, two Flynas flights, one from Kebbi and the other from Osun through Lagos departure centre.
“There is a fourth flight from Niger, totalling 2,528 pilgrims to arrive Madina on the first day.
“Further details will be shared as the activities unfold,” she said.
The commission added that any Hajj fare deposit received after May 2 would be duly refunded.
Haji Usara, the NAHCON spokesperson who said this in the statement on Wednesday in Abuja, gives five key points to note about the first airlift of Nigerian Pilgrims to the Holy Land.
1. The NAHCON spokesperson said that 315 pilgrims from Imo, Abia, and Bayelsa were scheduled for the first flight.
2. These pilgrims will be airlifted to the holy land by the Air Peace airline.
3. Vice-President Kashim Shettima is expected to grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour.
4. The inaugural airlift to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj commences from Friday, May 9.
5. The flight is scheduled to take off from Owerri, with Governro Hope Uzodimma of Imo as host.
Meanwhile, the NAHCON spokesperson added; “Already, the NAHCON advance team arrived Owerri earlier on May 7 to monitor preparations for the inaugural flight,” she said.
She also confirmed that registration for the 2025 Hajj ended with a record of 40,671 pilgrims.
